Desert Hot Springs Classical Concerts Presents Annual Concert Crawl on Sunday, March 8, 2020

The sixth season of Desert Hot Springs Classical Concerts presents its annual Afternoon Concert Crawl on Sunday, March 8th featuring concerts at three venues throughout the city between 2-4 pm.

The third annual “Afternoon Concert Crawl” on Sunday, March 8th will feature performers at Cabot’s Pueblo Museum, Miracle Springs Resort & Spa, and Word of Life Fellowship. At each venue, short performances will begin at 2pm, 2:45pm, and 3:30pm, making it possible for audience members to attend all three concerts in whatever order they choose.

“Back by popular demand, our ‘Afternoon Concert Crawl’ is a unique concert experience,” commented Danny Holt, DHS Classical Concert Series Founder and Artistic Director. “Think of the Concert Crawl as a ‘Choose-Your-Own-Adventure’ concert experience. This gives our audience the flexibility to attend all or one of the concerts according to their schedule and interest.”

“With each season of Desert Hot Springs Classical Concerts, we aim to bring more free concerts to our community,” said Holt. “Our sixth season brings music to a broad audience throughout the city by featuring concerts at five different venues, including the local high school.

Admission to all concerts is free, thanks to underwriting from the City of Desert Hot Springs Community and Cultural Affairs Commission, support from local businesses, and individual donors. Cash donations are accepted at the door to benefit the concert series.

About the March 8th Concert Crawl Performers:

Award winning musicians MIRCEA GOGONCEA (guitar) and MARLEY EDER (flute) began their collaboration over a year ago at the University of Southern California as a means of exploring the diverse repertory of a popular chamber setting. Their sensational performance chemistry and their voracious appetite for eclectic musical styles has since led to a vibrant partnership and numerous concerts throughout greater Los Angeles. Their experience in multiple genres of music spans the globe and embraces expanding traditional art music to include often neglected regions and composers. This attitude will be on full display with a program–not unlike an international tasting menu of short works–encompassing sounds both familiar and obscure in a succinct program that provides a delightful balance of old favorites and musical novelties.

MARGARET IRWIN-BRANDONbegan piano studies at age 5, added the organ at age 13, harpsichord at 23, then clavichord and after a long professional life of teaching and performing “Early Music,” returns to the piano–but a special type of piano: the “fortepiano,” so named to distinguish it from the modern instrument. Her concert will feature pieces by F.J. Haydn, W.A. Mozart, J. Duphly and J. Benda, composed in the 1790’s, perfect for her instrument, a replica fortepiano based on one built in 1798 by Anton Walther, in Austria.

In 2018, the BLISS FLUTE QUARTET was formed by University of Redlands students and alumni. Though the group is a quartet, they can be seen performing as a trio or even a duo at times. The Bliss Flute Quartet has performed in recitals and masterclasses throughout the Inland Empire such as the Inland Valley Flute Society, Woman’s Teacher Association and the Redlands Symphony Golden Baton Luncheon. The group loves to perform a variety of music from popular Disney tunes to arrangements of Mozart and Bach.

The following Sunday, March 15th at 4 pm, the concert series returns to Grace Church for a concert by Daria Binkowski (flute) and Kimberly Fitch (viola).

The concert takes place at Grace Church, 17400 Bubbling Wells Rd., Desert Hot Springs, CA 92241. Admission is free, but donations at the door are welcome, and go directly to supporting the concert series.

About the March 15th Performers:

Daria Binkowski (flute) and Kimberly Fitch (viola)will present a program of duos and solos. Daria and Kimberly met as students at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY, through their shared enthusiasm for contemporary music. Finding themselves both living in the Los Angeles area within the past few years, the two have been able to collaborate again. Kimberly recently returned to her home in Pasadena from a foray into stage work as the violinist in the Tony-award winning musical Indecent at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival. Daria stays busy in Long Beach and San Diego with their unusual ensemble, Figmentum, a trio of toy pianos. For this performance they will present the work of W.A. Mozart arranged for flute and viola, along with contemporary pieces from a diverse set of composers including three women: Virginia Fine, Sylvia Glickman, and Mei-Fang Lin.
