Todrick Hall is among the celebrities to post tributes to British TV presenter Caroline Flack, who took her own life on Saturday.

Flack, 40, was a well-known face on British TV. Most recently, she hosted the hit show Love Island, which has a cult following among some viewers in the US.

However, in December, she was arrested following a domestic dispute with her boyfriend, tennis player Lewis Burton, and charged with assault. In the wake of her arrest, broadcaster ITV dropped Flack from Love Island and she faced intense media coverage and online criticism.

She was also legally forbidden from contacting her boyfriend in the run-up to her trial, due to take place next month.

On Saturday, a lawyer for her family confirmed she had taken her own life. Flack’s management company said she had been under “intense pressure” since her arrest.

In 2018, Flack took the role of Roxy Hart in the London run of theater show Chicago. She worked alongside Todrick Hall.

Yesterday, Hall posted images of him and Flack together to his Instagram. The accompanying message begins by quoting a line from the Chicago song, “Funny Honey”.

“What if the world slandered my name?”

He continued, “3 minutes before tonight’s show I learned about the passing of one of the most genuine, down to earth and truly beautiful young women I have ever had the pleasure of sharing the stage with and calling a friend.

“I haven’t been an angel on the internet myself so I’m taking this note as well. But WE HAVE GOT TO STOP CANCELING, BULLYING, HARASSING people on the internet. At what cost is it worth it to drag someone for doing what we were put on this earth to do…MAKE MISTAKES.

“Shame on us, Shame on the media, THEY are the ones we should be cancelling. I’m heart broken for this amazing human that she felt that she had nowhere to turn other than to take her own life and I’m making a personal vow to stand up for what I truly believe is right no matter what the cost, as THIS is the clear alternative. RIP My sweet Caroline!

“If you are someone who works in the media concocting stories to try to keep your job and meet your petty quota for the week. Reevaluate your moral and ethic compass. Look at this situation, imagine this being your friend, daughter, sister, loved one and think before you print.

“And to those of us receiving this bullshit media, think before you comment & repost, tag and threaten. This is no joke. This is not a game. Wake up world. WAKE THE FUCK UP and let’s spread love on the internet. Good night.”

Others to pay tribute to Flack include her friend and co-presenter Laura Whitmore, who said, “To paparazzi and tabloids looking for a cheap sell, to trolls hiding behind a keyboard – enough.”

Jameela Jamil tweeted, “It was only a matter of time before the media and a prolonged social media dogpile, hers lasted for MONTHS, pushed someone completely over the edge. Rest In Peace Caroline Flack. This is fucking horrendous. 💔

Flack’s boyfriend, Bruton, who did not support the assault case against her, posted to his own Instagram yesterday, “My heart is broken we had something so special.

“I am so lost for words I am in so much pain I miss you so much.”
