Mayor Robert Moon, City Council to Host Palm Springs Chamber of Commerce’s Annual State of the City Address From Historic Plaza Theatre

Recognized as the leading annual event in Palm Springs addressing matters important to city government and the local business community, this year the State of the City Address is paying special tribute to an important historic landmark – the Palm Springs Plaza Theatre – the venue for this year’s address, preceded first by a special reception at il Corso.The event is scheduled for September 25, 2019 and begins at 5pm for the reception followed by the State of the City program at 6pm.

Mayor Robert Moon, City Councilperson J.R. Roberts along with Mayor Pro Tem Geoff Kors, City Councilmembers Lisa Middleton and Christy Holstege, are scheduled give remarks on the state of current and upcoming business projects for the city and a retrospective of the year.The Plaza Theatre’s history and its future will certainly be a highlight of this year’s address. 

The decision to choose the Plaza Theatre for this year’s venue is of special importance as it marks one of the last events to be held in the theatre that opened its doors in 1936 prior to a major restoration project anticipated to begin in 2020.Palm Springs Chamber of Commerce is planning an event that will showcase the theatre in its current condition along with a touch of ambiance theatre patrons would come to expect from a historic theatre where Jack Benny, Bob Hope, Amos & Andy, Greta Garbo and other legends performed. 

“We are thrilled to be able to showcase this amazing gem in our city.This year’s State of the City will definitely be one to remember” said Nona Watson, CEO for the Palm Springs Chamber of Commerce. 

Tickets for the event are $75 and includes reserved seating in the theatre plus access to the exclusive pre-event reception at il Corso located at 111 N. Palm Canyon Drive in Palm Springs.Beginning at 5pm, il Corso will serve food and wine or beverage for ticketed guests before the event moves across Palm Canyon Drive to the Plaza Theatre located at 128 S. Palm Canyon Drive where the State of the City Address is scheduled to begin at 6pm. 

City residents wishing to forgo purchasing tickets for the reception and reserved seating may attend the State of the City Address at the Plaza Theatre.Palm Springs Chamber of Commerce provides a viewing section in the theatre for those wishing to hear the address only.
