HAPPY BIRTHDAY dapperQ! Ten years ago this year, dapperQ, one of the world's most widely read queer style digital magazines, went live on the web. On March 8, 20o9, dapperQ.com published our first digital article, "How to Shoot a Street Style Video." The vid a tad grainy, but were are still going strong a DECADE later in a media landscape that has seen so many LGBTQ platforms shudder their doors. Today, we continue to reach incredible heights thanks to our supportive communities and dedicated readers, and we stand alongside and congratulate two of our major supporters also celebrating 10 years this year: Autostraddle and bklyn boihood.

Originally dubbed GQ for the “unconventionally masculine,” dapperQ was among the first digital spaces to champion “menswear” for those traditionally under-served by mainstream menswear media and designers, and has since expanded to celebrate the full spectrum of queer style with our sibling project Hi Femme!. dapperQ produces wide-ranging original content and events for which it has received media coverage in The New York Times, HBO, Vanity Fair, NBC News, Vice, Nylon, Refinery29, The Daily Beast, Teen Vogue, The Huffington Post, and The Washington Post, to name a few. Our events have been showcased at world renowned cultural institutions, including Brooklyn Museum, the Institute for Contemporary Art/Boston, California Academy of Sciences, The Museum of Fine Arts/Boston, South by Southwest, and The International Center of Photography.

We are thrilled to announce that we will be celebrating this important anniversary with a year full of events across the U.S. This is continues to grow, so book mark it for updates on how to purchase tickets and apply for modeling opportunities, production positions, and designer features.

Blurred Lines: Beauty in a Gender Fluid World

Mar 9, 2019 | 3:30pm – 4:30pm
Four Seasons
Ballroom AB

The beauty and cosmetics industry has long focused on marketing to a narrow demographic of homogeneous women. However, social media and greater acceptance of non-binary gender identities and gender presentations are challenging the beauty industry to be more diverse and inclusive. Younger generations are abandoning conventional notions of gender and social media platforms are spurring the democratization of beauty that allows for transcending gender-based beauty boundaries and for consumers across the gender spectrum to emerge as the creative directors of their own beauty without corporate brands dictating how they should look. Our panel of queer beauty experts and bloggers will discuss how these changes are are impacting the landscape of the beauty and cosmetics industry.

RIP Lesbian Bars: Creating Spaces For LGBTQ +WOMXN

Mar 10, 2019 | 12:30pm – 1:30pm
JW Marriott
Salon 4

As the LGBTQ community gains more acceptance in the world, we’ve seen a smaller amount of spaces dedicated to the community, specifically ones for womxn. Although equality is what we continue to fight for, we don’t want to be homogenized into the greater public. This would make us less visible and less accessible to those seeking out their community. With the closing of lesbian bars, we need to pioneer the new movement that creates community without solely depending on a bar. This panel will discuss why it’s important to continue to create these spaces without having a brick and mortar location, and why the “temporary” separation is necessary. Last, we will discuss why cities with womxn focused events have a significantly higher attendance as a whole during Pride celebrations.
