Trailer for Netflix’s ‘Special’ Follows Life of a Disabled Gay Man

The first trailer for the Netflix series ‘Special’ explores the life of a disabled gay man.

Netflix released the first trailer for Special, a brand new eight-part comedy show based on Ryan O’Connell’s memoir/manifesto I’m Special: And Other Lies We Tell Ourselves, and it looks ridiculously funny.

The Jim Parsons-produced show debuts on the streaming platform on April 12. It focuses on the story of a gay man living with cerebral palsy who decides to recreate himself as an accident victim and go after the life he desires.

“I love that you think I have enough self-esteem to be on Grindr.”

“I was in the closet about being gay, and then I was in the closet about being disabled, and now … no more closets,” O’Connell says in the trailer, which paints the show as a humorous yet heartwarming adventure.

Special stars O’Connell as himself, with Jessica Hecht (Friends), Punam Patel (Adam Ruins Everything), Marla Mindelle, Augustus Prew (Pure Genius), and Patrick Fabian (Better Call Saul).
