Earlier this month, Disney Channel's Andi Mack made history as the children's network's first show to have a main character explicitly say the words "I'm gay."

As exciting and groundbreaking as that moment was, because we live in an awful world that doesn't let queer kids have nice things, homophobic trolls took to Twitter to vocalize their disdain.

Fortunately for us, one of the show's stars had time to expertly school one of the said trolls.

"Gay kids are gonna exist no matter whether you like it or not. And we need to support and love all kids in every way we can," Joshua Rush (the actor who plays Andi Mack's openly gay character Cyrus Goodman) said over the weekend, responding to a now-deleted tweet by a troll about how introducing a gay character on the show is a "very poor example" for audiences.

I'm sorry you feel that way. Here's the thing though: gay kids are gonna exist no matter whether you like it or not. And we need to support and love all kids in every way we can. So when someone realizes they are gay, I want them to identify with something so they're not alone. https://t.co/Jnt6w5j0Yf

the internet is forever, you can't delete a tweet and expect it to be gone lol pic.twitter.com/fNiyhP95ME

"So when someone realizes they are gay, I want them to identify with something so they're not alone."

Rush continued:

It's fine to have your opinion but we're just trying to explain how an opinion like that–one that supports LGBTQ+ kids not having a voice–can be really damaging.

While it's unfortunate that homophobic trolls are still a thing in 2019, it's always cool to see an ally with a platform stick up for the queer community in such a badass way!
